Welcome to Court Mates. Court Mates is a non-commercial, not-for-profit community projectthat helps tennis players in New York City find people to hit with and, if they choose, to date. It is not yet incorporated as a legal entity and is operated by an individual founder based in New York, USA (“we,” “us,” “our”). The service is provided free of charge.
By creating an account or using Court Mates, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy and Community Code. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the service.
Court Mates is only for adults. You must be at least 18 years old to create an account or use the service. We may remove any account we believe belongs to someone under 18.
Court Mates helps members discover each other, arrange to play tennis, and message within the app. We do notrun background checks, verify identities, or screen members. We are not a matchmaking service and we don’t promise you’ll find a hitting partner, a date, or a relationship. We only set up a time to meet — we never reserve a court for you.
You sign in with a one-time link or code sent to your email (or phone). Keep access to that inbox secure — anyone with it can access your account. Provide accurate information about yourself and keep it current. You’re responsible for activity on your account.
You agree to follow the Community Code: be honest, be kind, respect boundaries, and show up when you say you will. You agree not to harass, threaten, deceive, or endanger anyone; not to post unlawful, hateful, or sexually explicit content; not to solicit money or promote businesses; and not to use Court Mates for anything other than its intended community purpose.
You keep ownership of the photos, bio, and other content you add. By posting it, you give us permission to store and display it within Court Mates so the service can work (for example, showing your profile to other members). Only post content you have the right to share and that follows these Terms. We may remove content that violates them.
You use Court Mates and meet other members entirely at your own risk. We are an introduction tool, nothing more. We do not screen, vet, background-check, verify the identity of, endorse, supervise, or take any responsibility for any member, their statements, their profile accuracy, or their conduct — online or in person.
You are solely responsible for your own safety and decisions. Use good judgment: meet in public, tell a friend where you’ll be, and stop if something feels wrong. Report concerning behavior with the in-app report and block tools; if you feel unsafe, contact local authorities. By using Court Mates you accept all risks arising from interactions with other members, playing tennis, travel to and from courts, and use of any facility — including personal injury, illness, death, property damage, harassment, fraud, or any other harm.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, you release, waive, and hold harmless Court Mates and the individual(s) who operate it from any and all claims, demands, damages, injuries, losses, or liabilities of any kind, known or unknown, arising out of or connected to your use of the service, your interactions or communications with other members, any meeting or match, and any content on the service. This release applies whether such claims arise in contract, tort, negligence, or otherwise.
Court Mates only helps you agree on a time and place. It does not book or hold courts. You’re responsible for following each facility’s rules and for any permit required (for NYC public courts, a NYC Tennis Permit).
You can delete your account at any time in the app. We may suspend or remove accounts that break these Terms or the Community Code, or to protect the community, at our discretion.
Court Mates is offered as-is and as-available, without warranties of any kind. We don’t guarantee it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure, and we may change or discontinue features at any time.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Court Mates and its operator(s) have no liability whatsoeverto you or anyone else for any direct, indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages — including personal injury, death, emotional distress, property damage, lost data, or losses from another member’s conduct — arising from or related to the service, whether or not we were advised such damages were possible. Because Court Mates is a free, non-profit project provided as a convenience, our total aggregate liability to you will not exceed one hundred U.S. dollars (US$100), or the minimum the law allows if that is higher. Some jurisdictions don’t allow certain limitations, so parts of this may not apply to you.
You agree to cover us for claims and costs arising from your misuse of Court Mates or your violation of these Terms or the law.
We may update these Terms as the project evolves. If we make material changes, we’ll update the date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app. Continuing to use Court Mates means you accept the updated Terms.
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, USA, without regard to conflict-of-law rules.
